'I took part in Exam, it was a unique experience for me. As a gay man, I came out at school aged 14. School became impossible and I hardly attended bar the last five exams. ~ Sitting that exam yesterday was an emotional and deeply personal experience that worked on many levels, thank you for the chance for me to participate in this.'
Exam Candidate, 24.05.2010
Exploring power, education, politics and queer culture, EXAM was the result of a four month engagement project with groups from the North West's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities - culminating in a one day public immersive art event. EXAM premiered as part of the Queer Up North Festival 2010 and proved to be a testing (and learning!) experience for the 100 candidates selected to take part in the performance.
Lead artist Joseph Richardson from Ultimate Holding Company is now hoping to build on Exam’s success and create new versions of the performance.
An overview of all EXAM results is available online at www.examproject.org.uk a new website dedicated to EXAM and it's future manifestations. Take a look at the site to see how everyone did. We hope to add new documentation as the project expands over the coming months.
